This spring, Fred and I with most gracious Board of Directors formed
a Florida Not for Profit Corporation, Memorial Scholarships, Inc.
WE
HAVE A MISSION!!!!!!
It provides memorial grants and scholarships designed to utilize student
evolvement. The grants and scholarships are publicly funded by donations.
All students activates, whether they be fundraising or advertisment,
will be designed to encourage and promote student volunteerism without
the use of drugs or alcohol. Each grant or scholarship is designed
especially be a requesting family or other entity, using the corporation's
guidelines, produces and with the corporation's approval. All levels
of family participation are available.
Our first member is John Yancy Memorial Scholarships presently sponsoring
a JHS Continuing Education Grant and the JHS Senior Scholarship Award.

Jupiter Insurance, Taylor and Gaby Hopkins have generously donated
office space at their location, 126 Center Street, Jupiter, Florida.

Second
Annual Scholarship Award

The $3000 John Yancy Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Jillian
Sweet at the Jupiter Hight School graduation award ceremony held
at the school on Monday May 14, 2007. John's sisters: Rhea and Amie,
presented the award along with John's friends, Hartwell, Rolly,
Piggy, Amil, Chad and Tyler. Jillian's name was added to the perpetual
commemorative plaques displayed at Jupiter High School, in the lobby
of the gym and in our office. We wish all the applicants a safe
and happy college experience. We would like to give a final thanks
to the KISS the Sky Foundation for allowing John's Scholarship to
be part of their not for profit organization.

Continuing
Education Grants
Thanks
to all that showed up and/or gave donations to the Day for John
Campaign RJ Gators Fundraiser in March. We funded the JHS Continuing
Education Grant. This grant is a $1000 award. To qualify you must
be a JHS graduate continuing his/her education, whether vocational,
undergraduate, postgraduate or doctorate. other criteria do apply.

Annual Garage Sale
The
third annual Garage Sale and Lemonade Stand fundraiser will be held
on the 26th and 27th October, 2007. A pre-sale will be held Friday
October 26th 1-5pm and the Saturday sale from 7am to Noon. All donations
of articles and baked goods will be accepted and are tax-deductible
charitable contributions. The October 2006 Garage Sale and Lemonade
Stand fundraiser raised over $1,200. Again, big thanks to Mrs. Madey
and Mrs. Clark for helping with the sale and setup. John's sisters
Rhea and Amie, with a few of their friends, worked the lemonade
stand and solf baked goods and t-shirts. Special thanks to the JHS
Key Club who sent volunteers to help setup and work the sale.
Some wonderful items have already been donated notably 2 debroom
suites a boys and a girls. The boys, solid oak, complete with bunks,
dresser and desk. The girls, wicker from Pier One, complete with
headboard, dresser, mirror, armoire and desk.
Volunteers for this year's event will be needed the week before
the event for pricing and setup. Also from time to time, help will
be needed for transportation of donated items. Rembember volunteer
hours will be given for the time taken to collect items for the
sale.

One Act Plays
The
Yancy Memorial Scholarships Festival of One Act Plays will be performed
February 2, 2008 at 2pm in the Jupiter High School Auditorium. Admission
is $5 at the door. This event will award cash to 3 JHS drama students
submitting the most inspirational One Act Play. The theme for this
play is "Don't Smoke Or Ever Do Drugs For Me": First place $250,
second place $175, and third place $125. All drama students were
given this as an assignment. The 6 best will be given cash to cast,
produce and perform their play on February 2. Mr. Hilliker is the
JHS contact for this event. Information is available on the web

be unveiling the new tee-shirt design and logo and awarding the
cash prize to the winning JHS art student.

sponsoring a logo and t-shirt design competition, with a $250.00
cash award. The theme for this shirt is "Don't Smoke Or Ever Do

see Ms. Bruno at JHS. The deadline for competition is December 13,
2007.
