The $1000 John Yancy Memorial Scholarships Continuing Education Grant was awarded to Amber Maynard. Amber is a 2001 Jupiter High School graduate and received a Bachelor of Heath Science Degree, Cum Laude, from the University of Florida. She will be pursuing her master’s degree as a Physician Assistant.  Some of the criteria for this award included graduating from Jupiter High School, a volunteer log, and a resume.  Also, required, a 1000 word essay written to a brother or sister.   The thesis of this essay;  “negative costs”, both present and future, of drug use during college. 

Yes, Jupiter High School Drama students can act, direct, write and produce.  As an on-air quote from Rick Blackwell, of news12now, “Well the writers may be on strike in Hollywood, but local kids are pumping out the scripts.”   Jupiter High School drama students showcased their talents at the first annual John Yancy Memorial Scholarship 2008 JHS Festival of Plays.  The audience was impressed by the student’s abilities.  Out of the over 140 plays submitted to the Jupiter High drama department, the top 6 were selected and 5 were performed on February 2, 2008, in the JHS Auditorium.  Each of the finalists had a budget of $75 to cast, direct and produce their play. A panel of judges selected the best performer for each play and awarded cash prizes to the best three.  The first place prize of  $250 was awarded to Hillary Newton, A Slice and A Soda.  Second place, $175 was awarded to Samantha McKinlay, A Dosage Well Needed.  Third place $125, was awarded to Alex Tammaro, Learning Magic.  All Star cast award went to Cody Nance, Charlie McGrath, Ashley Hagadom, Brigette Virgil, Alex Marrone with Honorable Mention to Brandon Brown, the chalkboard man.  You had to be there!
